FIRST YEAR:
[ Sculpture 3 ]
to make this sculpture i made structural folded cylinders contrasted with scrunched balls on a length of thread. These were arranged in descending scale order, alternating from structured to scrunched. I was greatly inspired by the silhouette of the Miyake dress. i wanted to create greater sense of movement to the sculpture though the orientation being horizontal and curvaceous.

[ Diagram: Light ]
My intent was to capture the translucent quality on the material of the overpass and the garment. Light and radiance is possibly one of the most beautiful ephemeral conditions that occurs in a city space. I mapped on trace paper the areas where light and negative space such as the sky appear. Then with a stencil knife i removed those areas. By placing another piece of trace paper over the top of this stencil the light translates from the stencil to the covering piece of trace paper in a more organic manner. I say organic because when you move both pieces of paper around with a natural light source coming through the back different shapes and angles are created. Like as there were a sun traveling around the diagram to highlight different aspects of the stenciled shapes.

[ Diagram: Foreground ]
The foreground in nature contains the intricate detail of the buildings and things at close distance.

[ Diagram: Midground ]
The midground contains the threshold. the most important aspect of the space. It depicts the activity and how the passover is connected from one building to the other.

[ Diagram: Ground ]
The ground maps out all that is overseen. Even when looking at the picture for a while you can still miss the fine happenings in the ground. it is like seeing a new dimension to the photo due to the emphasis on perspective depth, especially in the bottom of the composition.

After researching the physics of sound i went back to the site and took sound clips of 5 min over a span of a day. This image was a sound clip from 12:10pm-12:15pm. i created the image by placing the mp3 into Audacity. This gave me a visual and a detail of the sound. in the areas of high intensity such as when an ambulance went past the visual would become more turbulent and tragic.

i explored different elements of sound such as frequency, bass and amplification. i wanted to explore this to see what its effects were to the visual. the result was an abstract line drawing. i love seeing the change to this condition. it is one this to hear the difference then to see it!
